THE PERSON BEHIND THE WORK

Hello, I’m
Garrett Kegel.

I am a software developer currently working for Sacramento County. I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and master's degrees in Data Analytics and Accounting. My interests include mathematics, software engineering, game development, and finance. I enjoy building applications that solve problems, particularly games, financial software, and automation tools. I am studying computer science at CSU Monterey Bay to strengthen my technical foundation, expand my knowledge of computing, and potentially pursue doctoral research in computer science.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

A foundation for
thoughtful technology.

01

Design & build

Practice software design, web development, graphics, and engineering through course projects.

02

Understand systems

Develop a stronger understanding of databases, networks, and algorithms, and apply that knowledge to my Capstone project.

03

Consider the impact

Explore professional communication and the relationship between technology, identity, and society.

LOOKING AHEAD

Where I want to go.

01

Technical Goal

Strengthen my understanding of computer science fundamentals, particularly algorithms, databases, and software architecture. I want to apply this knowledge to projects that involve investigating complex problems, developing computational methods, and exploring new ideas.

02

Career Goal

Continue developing my career as a software engineer while preparing for the possibility of pursuing a PhD in Computer Science. I want to gain the knowledge and research experience necessary to contribute to the field through original research.

03

Personal Goal

Explore the intersection of mathematics and computer science by developing software that investigates mathematical structures, identifies patterns, and tests hypotheses. Ultimately, I want to contribute something original and meaningful to either field.

THE LEARNING PATH

One course.
One step forward.
